Our first visit to a Bird Sanctuary
November 2009

The Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary in Gurgaon (Haryana) can be termed as a neaby getaway option for Delhiites. Located just 50 kms away from Delhi we tried to find out more about the place through websites and blogs. Although is has a dedicated one for its own - www.sultanpurbirdsanctuary.com.  We were not able to find a definate route guide or map to reach the place.

Below are the route we took and a few pictures.

Tips

Ask anyone for Farukh nagar. On the Pataudi road ask for Wazirpur, from there right turn takes you to Farukh nagar. None will be able to answer you if you ask Sultan pur Bird Sacntuary - ask for the place it is loacted Farukh nagar.

The sanctuary has lots of birds - some resident and some migratory. Locating one is not difficult at all. There are watch towers which offer a panoramic view of the place. The path to walk has also been built and it took us nearly 3 hours to trod through the entire path gazing at the birds. Sultanpur Bird Sactuary has parking and other facilities like toilets and drinking water for visitors. The Rosy Pelican Tourist Guest house provides accomodation as well as it has a restaurant serving food and snacks.

Winter being the best time to visit brings in migratory birds from Siberia, Europe and Afghanistan. We could spot a few birds like Kingfishers, Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Wagtails, Mynah, Dove, Egret and more
